Lids made of Tyvek® are peel-open covers made from DuPont™ Tyvek® nonwoven material, heat-sealed onto thermoformed trays to create a sterile barrier for medical devices and components. They are widely used in medical device packaging because Tyvek® combines microbial barrier protection with breathability, allowing sterilants to penetrate while keeping contaminants out. Common applications include packaging for surgical instruments, implants, catheters, and single-use devices across cardiovascular, orthopedic, and ophthalmic end markets.
Lids made of Tyvek® support multiple sterilization modalities, including ethylene oxide (EO), gamma irradiation, and electron beam (e-beam). The breathable structure of Tyvek® is particularly well-suited for EO sterilization, where gas must freely pass through the packaging material. Coated grades CT1073B, CT1059B, and CT2FS can be matched to your specific sterilization process and seal requirements.
